Sometimes, I am so tired at the end of the day that I wonder what on earth I was thinking of to open a business at my age. Anyone ever having owned any business, especially one that serves food, knows it can be overwhelming. Last night, as I lay in bed I was ruminating over everything that happen at Karma yesterday. Most was good, some was a little upsetting (bill paying was not a winner), and one thing really touched my heart.
Yesterday, a little boy came in to see me because I had previously let him use the internet and given him a small drink and treat for free. He had returned with money and wanted to purchase a sandwich and drink-he really loved coming in the shop, he told me. He asked me if he could order a drink and a sandwich for the money he had (he was actually a few dollars short for what he wanted to buy) and I told him he had enough for whatever he wanted. He ordered his food and drink, and set down and used the internet (he doesn't have internet at home, and he was given an IPOD as a gift). He was so polite, sweet and had such great manners! When he got ready to leave, he said "Lorna, that was the best sandwich I ever ate, I will be back really soon". Last night I remember, again, why I am doing what I am doing! Will I ever get rich owning Karma-NO!!! However, anytime I can help make a child's day a little better, is making my life a little richer. That young boy's smile will linger with me today as I trudge off to Karma, bone tired, but ready to start up again. He had the biggest, sweetest smile and I don't think anyone all day (and we had many great customers!) lit up the room like he did! Doing
