Cider simmering, cocoa along the way (yes, it was cold back home in NY in October), bags filled with candy and homemade goodies (safe, in our small community back in the 1960's), laughing with friends, hearing the crunch of leaves under our feet (and, at times, the falling of snow on our faces)-my memories of Halloween. Checking out everyone's costume, (those we had not seen at the school parade) and wishing I had a homemade one instead of a plastic mask and outfit (my mother was never creative, nor did she sew) and being happy, but a little envious of those who had wonderfully designed by mom costumes. Going home dead tired, to face another day of school in the morning; yet excited to pour all my candy from my bag and trade with my younger (and unsuspecting) sister for the "better candy". Great memories, and I hope my children and grandchildren will look back at Halloween and feel the same way (minus the plastic costumes-they have stories of their own of their mother's strange costume designs, lol). This is a day to feel young and enjoy the spirit of Halloween-have a wonderful day!!
