I have loved to read ever since I can remember. I recall reading in bed as a child with a dim hall light, barely able to see the words. Sensibly, my mother would not allow us to sleep with the lights on and I was suppose to be sleeping, not reading. However, every night I would read in my dimly lit room until I feel asleep; book on my chest. Written words have taken me so many places, to so many eras and given me such insight into days gone by. I have lived vicariously through heroines, queens, martyrs, saints and more. I have traveled all over this world, nonexistent world, to other planets and even to the moon. I have seen most wondrous things: beautiful castles, exotic islands, gardens of flowers flowing for miles. I have also seen things that would give me the strength to fight for my convictions and have a strong sense of compassion: concentration camps, dank prisons, horrors of war, man's extreme inhumanity to man, and more. I learned about activities I grew to love, first through books (dancing, sewing, cooking, crafting, gardening, and more). Books have taught me about things I will never see, things I cannot see, things I wish to see and things that I now will see-due to reading about them. Some of my favorite gift have been books; my best recollections of people giving me gifts are book related (my grandfather gave me several "Book of the Month" memberships, starting when I entered Kindergarten. I remember all these books, even though this was so long ago, because of my love for both reading and my grandfather).
Pages and covers to me ARE books. I don't want a computerized book reader, I don't want to read my books on my lap- top nor do I ever want to read a book on my phone. I want to read and reread my books, treasure them as they get "dog eared" and have them forever!
So, if you have a passion for books; next time you visit Karma, tell me about one you love. If you ask, I will tell you about some of my favorite books and authors. I love mini book reviews, so I know what I want to read next! Yes, I do also love cookbooks-Thank you to Jeannie, Karma Friend and Awesome Customer for not so long ago, gifting me with two very good ones! By the way, the books at Karma are there for your enjoyment-I need to pick up a few more children's books-I keep giving them away ( I buy them at the dollar bookstore, so they are for giving!!). Hugs, Lorna
